The Biblical equipping team has responsibility for the teaching ministry of the congregation. These ministries include youth and adult confirmation instruction, Growth Groups, Bible studies and Cross+Gen (cross-generational) Sunday School which follows worship on most Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM. Growth groups are led by lay leaders. Pastor leads the Cross+Gen Sunday School program and teaches confirmation classes. He also teaches a Tuesday morning fellowship Bible study discussing the assigned Bible readings for the coming Sunday’s worship services.

This ministry team focuses on those things that help the congregation build relationships within the membership. One of their primary responsibilities is the Sunday morning fellowship following worship. This gives everyone an opportunity to visit, and to welcome newcomers. The weekly Shepherd’s Voice digital newsletter is another area of responsibility because it helps everyone be aware of important events and worship life. Other responsibilities include arranging for transportation to and from church for those who need it, potluck dinners.

Three words describe the focus of the Missional Services Ministry Team: Discipleship, Stewardship and Partnership. Occasional mission trips organized by this team help members and friends to share in God’s work both near and fear. Mercy ministries include the local food bank support that is received from the Giving Garden, supporting opportunities for young people to heighten their awareness of environmental concerns, and supporting Eagle Scout projects of local scouts, such as the pergola in the Garden. Shepherd of the Valley provides needed support to Love Inc., provides a weekly worship ministry in a nearby nursing home, and supports Habitat for Humanity in Corvallis and the Options Pregnancy Resource Center in Albany.

The responsibilities of this ministry team are primarily the worship and prayer life of the congregation. Shepherd of the Valley celebrates the Lord’s Supper every Sunday and on special days and follows the three year liturgical calendar of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synd. Responsibilities of this team also include providing guidance for the pastor in developing special worship services for Advent, Lent and special Sundays in the church year. It also includes music for worship, providing support for ushers, musicians, altar guild, and acolytes. Many volunteers offer their time and talents as greeters, tech support for worship and AV operation, and by serving as lay leaders in worship as lectors (readers) and assisting ministers for special services. Decorating the worship space for special times and seasons is another area of responsibility for this busy ministry team.
